Date: 15 May 2013
Location: The Netherlands, Eindhoven, Holst Centre, High Tech Campus Eindhoven.
Workshop 1:
Holst Research Center scientists / researchers, Olga Mink (Baltan Laboratories), Patrick De Koning (chemist/artist/tech integrator), Bartaku
Workshop design and facilitation by Bartaku
The first Sansessolalia workshop introduced the artistic research theme (plant cognition/consciousness) and investigated possible connections with existing research programs at Holst Research Center. This allowed participants to contribute to the idea and check if it could resonate with the personal interest and professional practice. Also, the materiality and thinking process of the research center were observed.
Workshop 2:
Holst Research Center scientists / researchers, Greg Saul (Diatom Design), Patrick De Koning (chemist/artist/tech integrator), Bartaku
Workshop design and facilitation by Bartaku
In the second workshop a hands-on session was combined with concept / narrative development. Most of the researchers of the first workshop participated, and some new people were introduced.
The focus piece of attention in the hands-on session was the piccolo.cc, a small sized open CNC-platform, that could help express plant conscience. Under the guidance of one of the key-designers of the piccolo, Greg Saul, a number of piccolos were assembled.
During the creative session the existing ideas were enriched, turned around, and new ideas were introduced. Also, crucial insight in the production process of Holst was attained, making the understanding of realistic directions possible. As in the first workshop, the materiality and thinking process of the research center were observed.
